How is the Government supporting schools through the coronavirus

How is the Government supporting schools through the coronavirus

As we all know, schools have been shut for a number of weeks now due to the coronavirus outbreak. A question on everybody’s mind was, “How is the government going to support schools, teachers, parents and students through this difficult time?”. The department for education has announced a number of initiatives to help support schools in their mission to educate students at home.

Free laptops for disadvantaged students

The government confirmed that they would be providing free laptops to vulnerable and disadvantaged young people as part of a push to make remote education accessible for pupils staying at home during the coronavirus outbreak. This will help students that don’t have access to devices, those at critical stages of their education will be prioritised.

There is currently no specified number of laptops available, or set budget, and it will be up to schools or local authorities to decide who needs help with access to a computer.

Oak National Academy- 180 online lessons per week

Some parents are running their own home lessons, many are taking advantage of educational applications. To help parents, the government has announced the launch of Oak National Academy. The academy will offer 180 video lessons each week, across a broad range of subjects from maths to art to languages, for every year group from Reception through to Year 10.

Provide 4G routers

The government will also provide 4G routers to make sure that disadvantaged secondary school pupils and care leavers can access the internet. With many devices using cloud services, this internet access is vital.

Can edde help your school?

Here at edde, we would like to thank the support of the Education Secretary Gavin Williamson. But more importantly all the NHS staff across the UK that are working hard through these difficult times.

We have been helping a number of schools introduce more digital devices for their students and providing insurance on these devices. If you have any questions about the government initiatives or how edde can help your school, please get in touch below!

By entering your details, you will receive a free survey tool to enable you to gauge interest from your parents and help highlight areas that you need to consider ensuring the successful digital learning scheme.
